Super 6 for Port as they score big win

- Football

PORTHMADOG FC maintained their 100 per cent record in pre-season with a 6-0 away win at Llanuwchllyn last Friday.

Sion Edwards banged in a hat-trick for Craig Papirnyk’s side, who proved too strong for their Welsh National League Premier Division opponents.

The home team held Port in a scoreless first half, but after 57 minutes Edwards put them ahead with Iddon Price doubling the advantage on 68.

This second goal opened the floodgates with four further goals coming in the space of just eight minutes.

Jake Jones netted Port’s third on 70 and Edwards then got back into the act to score twice after 73 and 76 to complete his personal treble. Port’s sixth was a 78th minute own goal.

Last Tuesday saw Port triumph 4-1 against Welsh Alliance Division One hopefuls Llandyrnog United on the 4G pitch at Maes Tegid, Bala.

Port went ahead after 21 minutes, Julian Williams finding the net with a shot from 20 yards.

A goal from Llandyrnog’s Luke Appleby levelled the scores.

With half-time approaching Port got themselves back on front. It came via a Sion Edwards corner with Warren Duckett applying the finishing touch.

There was no addition to the score until the 63rd minute when summer signing from Brickfield Rangers, Dale Davies, met a Gruff John cross to make it 3-1.

It became 4-1 on 83 minutes with Rob Evans on the mark.

Iwan Lewis and Meilir Williams found the net for Port in their opening friendly, which delivered a 2-0 win over Welsh Alliance Division One outfit Llangefni Town, runners-up at that level last season.

This Saturday, Porthmadog’s current first team squad will take on a Cewri Port Legends side containing many illustrious Traeth names from the past, kick off 2.30pm.

On Tuesday, July 24, Port host Penrhyndeudraeth of the Welsh Alliance in a local derby, then on July 28, Papirnyk’s side travel to Wrexham for a meeting with Welsh National League Premier Division runners-up last season, Brickfield Rangers.
