SIX INJURED IN CRASH

Call for witnesses after cars collide on A497 at Llanystumd­wy:

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash left six people in hospital.

Several ambulances including the air ambulance were called to the scene after a blue Vauxhall Vectra and a white Mercedes collided head-on.

The incident happened on the A497 in Llanystumd­wy, near Criccieth, shortly before 10am on Friday.

Two people were cut out of the Vectra by firefighte­rs, one of them a woman who was sat in the passenger seat. She was later airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

A man driving the Vectra along with two children in the same car were also taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by ambulance following the crash.

They are believed to have sustained minor injuries.

A man driving the Mercedes and his passenger were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd by ambulance.

Their injuries are also believed to be minor.

The road was closed for almost six hours while North Wales Police forensic officers carried out a thorough investi- gation at the scene.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen either vehicle being driven prior to the collision to contact us.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoma­n, said: “We were called to the A497 near Bont Fechan around 9.45am on Friday, July 27th, following reports of a serious road traffic incident.

“A number of emergency ambulances were sent to the scene, supported by Air Ambulance.

“Patients were transporte­d by emergency ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, and by air Ambulance to North Staffs City Hospital.”

A spokeswoma­n for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We had the call through at 9.49am. We sent two appliances and extracted two people from the vehicle.”
