Why Brexit threatens N.Wales crime fighting

FOOTBALL league bosses made a hilarious Welsh spelling blunder that Mrs Brown’s Boys would have been proud of when handing out an award to a village team.

Welsh Alliance officials awarded CPD Y Felinheli a prize for best match programme but the club’s name was spelt “Fekinheli”.

The club was left nonplussed by the gaffe but the monumental mishap soon had North Wales football followers on social media tittering, with the spelling disaster drawing comparisons with the parlance of Irish TV comedy characters Mrs Brown and Father Jack.

A CPD Y Felinheli club statement said: “We as a club find the misspelling of our name funny, but feel the situation could easily have been avoided had the league’s officials checked the trophy prior to us being presented.

“We are very appreciative of the great work the officials of the Welsh Alliance League do for football in North Wales.

“We’re also very proud to have been awarded the Welsh Alliance League Division Two programme of the year.”

Welsh Alliance League general secretary Ron Bridges, who organises the annual awards, said he was unaware of the error.

“It’s the first I’ve heard of it,” he said.

“The awards were a few weeks ago and I’ve not heard anything.

“We’ve got a league meeting and if the club wants to raise a complaint it can do so.We will correct the error at our own cost. I send the details off to the people who make up the awards every year and it’s not the first time there’s been a wrong spelling.

“It’s not a big thing; these things can always be corrected by making another trophy.”
