Memorable win for Port against in-form Bangor City

-

PORTHMADOG proved they can be a genuine force in the Huws Gray Alliance title race when they celebrated a memorable 2-1 win last Tuesday at a Bangor City side previously possessing a 100% record.

In the 13th minute, Port’s Jay Gibbs sent an absolute rocket into the net from 18 yards, leaving keeper Chris Mullock clutching at the night air.

Bangor threatened down the flanks and Paul Pritchard needed to be at his best to deny City’s Alex Boss.

Gibbs again went close with an angled shot, while Julian Williams met a Sion Edwards cross at the back post only to see his header fly wide.

Ifan Emlyn then drew a good save from Mullock before the first half ended with Craig Papirnyk’s side one-up.

Bangor came out strongly in the second half, with Pritchard forced into a fine save to keep out Boss.

In the 68th minute, the game took a huge turn in Port’s favour. Julian Williams and Rob Evans combined on the right and a super flick from the former rolled perfectly into the path of Iwan Lewis, who got enough on the ball as Mullock challenged to find the net.

Ifan Emlyn’s cracking shot was then well saved by Mullock.

Finally, Bangor replied with just five minutes of normal time remaining through Jacob Farleigh, but Port held on for a famous win.
