Pwllheli clinch title in thrilling decider

PWLLHELI were crowned Division One champions of the Winllan Pant Du Gwynedd and Anglesey Summer Netball League after beating nearest challenger­s Arfon Ladies 28-26 in last week’s thrilling title decider.

Arfon led after each of the first three quarters, 7-5, 15-12 and 21-20 respective­ly, but Pwll produced a big finish to take the last 8-5 and clinch top spot for the first time.

Player of the match for Pwllheli was Gwenan Williams, with Llinos Dobbins being voted best for Arfon.

Dyffryn Ladies clinched third spot after pipping Menai Mavericks 21-20.

Dyffryn were 8-5 ahead after the first, 14-10 at half time and then 19-15 ahead of the final session, which saw Mavericks fight back to win it 5-2, but end up just one goal short of their opponents’ tally.

PoM: Dyffryn – Ffion Jones; Mavericks – Kathryn Hughes.

Primos saw off Holyhead 32-25 having led all the way through.

PoM: Primos – Cherelle Jarvis; Holyhead – Sophie Begley.

Dolgellau and Arfon Celts are neck-and-neck on 64 points ahead of the final set of games in Division Two this week. Last week’s action saw Dolgellau outscore Dreigiau Brynrefs 18-8.

PoM: Dolgellau – Cerys Hughes; Brynrefs – Gwen Roberts.

Celts got past Pwllheli Subway Warriors 31-25 in a match which stood just 14-12 to the Arfon side at the midway point.

PoM: Celts – Flick Smith; Warriors – Gwenno Pritchard.

Porthmadog recorded a 24-18 victory over Pwllheli Wildcats.

PoM: Porthmadog – Diane Williams; Wildcats – Cara O’Neil.
