- Sarah Hodgson

ALETTING agency has told of their shock after a cannabis farm was found in one of their flats following a huge blaze.

Police investigating the fire in Pool Street in Caernarfon discovered a “large cannabis cultivation” in the flats above the Get Connected phone shop after a fire ripped through the building last Monday morning.

London-based Easy Lettings, who manage the whole building, have vowed to help get the phone shop back on its feet as soon as possible.

A representative of the asset management team of London based Easy Lettings said: “Following the fire on Pool Street in Caernarfon the police called us and we have been fully co-operating with their ongoing investigation.

“We have given them all the information we have on file to assist them with the ongoing investigation into the perpetrators of this incident.

“The news received today that there was a cannabis farm in the flat of the building is truly shocking to us.

“We did all the usual checks on the tenants before renting the flat to them and found nothing to be concerned about so for this to happen is just shocking.

“The asset management team do six-monthly inspections and they were due to be inspected in the coming weeks.

An investigation found that the cause of the blaze was “electrical involving the main incoming electrical supply board”.

The full cost of the damage has yet to be determined however there was major damage to the shop, flat and neighbouring properties.

The spokesman for Easy Lettings added: “We have appointed loss assessors to manage the situation and we will see what happens from there but I understand there is lots of damage to the flat.

“Since the incident we have not been able to get hold of the tenants of the flat. Our asset management team are committed to do everything we can to help the Get Connected phone shop back up and running as soon as we can and we are so thankful no one was hurt.”

Police said nobody has been arrested in connection with the cannabis crop.

Seven fire engines were required to put out the blaze and the road was shut for much of the day.

Get Connected, a Wales-based national chain, praised the quick thinking of the shop manager in calling the fire service after smelling smoke.
