Guitar tuition from finest string players
THE Llŷn Guitar Festival will take place at Plas Glyn-yWeddw, Llanbedrog, from Friday, September 28, to Sunday, September 30.
The festival’s aim is to offer world-class acoustic tuition to guitar enthusiasts of any level. Whether you want a full guitar retreat experience, or just want to come along for the concerts, you will be welcome.
For the guitarist wishing to attend the full tuition and workshops, this event gives the perfect opportunity to escape to a coastal retreat to hang out with and learn from some of the UK’s finest players. Numbers will be limited so student will have plenty of contact time with the teachers.
The exact nature of the tuition and workshops can be tailored to suit the needs of the student, so, if you are interested, contact the organisers as soon as possible to discuss your aspirations.
Even if your family don’t share your you can bring them along. The surrounding area includes the holiday towns of Abersoch, Porthmadog and Pwllheli and, with the local scenery, walks and attractions, it will be a memorable weekend for all the family.
The festival concerts are included for the full students, but are ticketed separately, so partners can join you for the concerts on the Saturday.
The weekend starts with a Pre-Festival Meet/Meal and Performances, at the Glyn y Weddw Arms on Friday at 7.30pm. There will be masterclasses on the Saturday and Sunday, and a concert in Plas Glyn y Weddw on the Sunday afternoon.
The students are in good hands, with the artistes this year including Martin Carthy, for more than 50 years one of folk music’s greatest innovators; Sally Barker, well known for her her work with The Poozies and Fotheringay, and Tom Jones’s finalist on BBC’s The Voice in 2014; Dave Bainbridge and Sally Minnerar, from the legendary Iona band; Paul Brett, one of the world’s best 12string guitarists and young guitarists Rory Evans and Billy Watman.
Abergavenny-based luthier Richard Meyrick will bring a selection of his hand-crafted guitars, and present a guitar-making masterclass.
