Bethel bid to make it three out of three

-

BETHEL Ladies will look to maintain their flying start to the season when they host Kinmel Bay at Cae Seilo, Felinheli, this Sunday (1pm).

The all-maroons are one of three teams in North Wales Women’s League Division One with two wins out of two, their latest success a 4-0 victory at Denbigh Town last weekend.

Having whipped champions Northop Hall 4-1 in their first match, Bethel travelled to the Vale of Clwyd full of confidence and exploded out of the blocks, looking to unsettle Denbigh early on.

Erin Maloney stretched Denbigh’s defence as she blasted past the full back and drove the ball across goal, strike partner Ffion Williams at full stretch, inches away from tapping in.

Minutes later, Leonie Prytherch won the ball at right full-back, beat two players and struck a fierce shot that was too hot for the keeper to handle and, as she fumbled, Ffion Williams pounced to nod home and put the visitors in front.

Bethel proceeded to dominate the game, their defence coping with Denbigh’s attacks and the midfield players pulling the strings. It did not take long to make it 2-0. Sioned Hughes-Williams in the Bethel net claimed the ball from a Denbigh corner and sent a huge clearance downfield. Gwenno Gibbard won the initial header, Ffion Williams cleverly flicked the ball on and sent Maloney bearing down on goal.

The 16-year-old stayed cool oneon-one and thumped her effort into the top right corner for her first senior goal.

Good play between Ffion Williams and Katie Houghton led to Jody Cain finding space in midfield and she struck a shot from 25 yards that rattled the crossbar.

Bethel started the second half as they did the first, all guns blazing. They made it three and it was Williams again from a similar scenario.

Cain tested the keeper from the edge of the area, once again the shot was too fierce and Ffion Williams smashed home the ball from close range.

Second half substitute Sioned Phillips wrapped up the points as she stepped up to take a free kick won by Williams.

From 30 yards, Phillips took aim and smashed the ball into the top right-hand corner.

Bethel could have made it more as Maloney and Sian Elin came close, but it stayed 4-0. Player of the match was 16-year-old Jody Cain, whose sister, Kyla, 12, is also assisting the team by taking match photographs. All at CPD Bethel thank Kyla for her efforts.
