Nefyn fly flag with triumph over Tigers

-

NEFYN United provided the only piece of cheer for Herald area clubs in the Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd League last Saturday as they triumphed 7-0 at newcomers Mynydd Tigers.

Jos Lloyd Jones (3), Daniel Roberts, Jack Williams, Guto Roberts and Mark Dunn shared the goals for the Penwaig, who are second in the table.

Had it not been for a series of amazing saves from Mynydd keeper David Ball, the visitors would have hit double figures.

It was only 1-0 to Nefyn at half time, Jones breaking the deadlock on 40 minutes, but the second period was a rout.

Leaders Menai Bridge Tigers maintained their perfect record in the league with a sixth straight victory as they saw off visitors Talysarn Celts 4-1.

Dean Redmond was a hat-trick hero for the islanders, Sion Hogan also on target, while Jac Jones scored a late consolation goal for Celts from a corner.

Glantraeth romped to a 6-1 success at Bontnewydd, Andy Clarke and Tom Hadley netting two apiece. Ben Roberts and Dion Williams were also on the mark, David Carl Jones with a 90th minute response.

Carwyn Williams hit four as Llangoed chalked up a 6-1 result at Llanystumdwy, Llion Roberts and Tomos Lewis adding one each, Darren Parry responding for the hosts.

Mark Griffith was a hat-trick star as Gwalchmai registered a 6-2 win at Waunfawr on this day of big away team scores. Corey Sinnott (2) and Gwion Thomas notched the rest, Ioan Gwynedd and Adam Lloyd hitting back for the Beganifs.

In all, the league produced 34 goals across five games – good entertainment value.
