LLANFFESTINIOG

WI TRIP: After being educated about the Rebecca Riots and the unfairness of tolls across Gwynedd by Dilys Williams in June, we were informed about the interesting holidays and destinations offered by Ffestiniog Travel delivered by Alan Heywood in July. So we were ready for our annual trip in August. The President Joan Yates welcomed members to Fron Goch garden centre where we explored the plant section and shop before enjoying a satisfying lunch in the café. In the afternoon we drove to Yr Ysgwrn the farmhouse home of Hedd Wyn who was killed in Passiondale at the end of the First World War. We were guided through the rooms of the house. It is poignant seeing the chairs he had won for his poetry especially the Black Chair awarded to him at the National Eisteddfod in Birkenhead when he was no longer alive to receive such an honour. Our visit to Yr Ysgwrn ended with a lovely afternoon tea and cake in the café. We now look forward to the Autumn when our first meeting is on September 11th at 7pm in the Village Hall.
