RIDGE RESCUE

Family stuck on Snowdon range after risky wrong turn:

- Steve Bagnall

RESCUERS helped a family to safety after they got stuck on a treacherous ridge after taking a wrong turn.

The group went the wrong way at Bwlch y Moch and travelled the path up the east ridge of Crib Goch in Snowdonia.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (LMRT) and a Coastguard helicopter were involved in moving the family of five out of danger on August 30 this year. A LMRT spokes- man said: “A family of five had taken a wrong turning at Bwlch y Moch and ascended the path up the east ridge of Crib Goch.

“After making it some way along the ridge, two of the younger members of the party decided this was more excitement than a summer holiday requires and dug their heels in, as teenagers often do.

“A team of five was lifted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue 936 helicopter, who dropped them on the ridge.

“The members of the group who would move were taken a little farther along the ridge to a safer spot while the others were winched onboard.

“After dropping the family at our LZ in Nant Peris, Rescue 936 was good enough to return for our team – thanks as always for your assistance.”

LMRT is a voluntary organisation responding to those in need on Snowdonia. The team is on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and relies entirely on donations from members of the public.
