Developers appointed for £3.5m Slate Quay project
DEVELOPERS have been appointed for the £3.5m waterfront transformation in Caernarfon.
Caernarfon Harbour Trust have appointed Grosvenor Construction Ltd as the main contractors for their new Cei Llechi (Slate Quay) development.
This ambitious project will see the Harbour Office building and the derelict buildings behind it transformed into workspaces for local artisan and craft manufacturers.
The development will be a mix of restoration and new building work.
Grosvenor, who are based in Kinmel Bay, have many years of experi- ence on projects with similar heritage features, such as the highly praised restoration of Yr Ysgwrn, Hedd Wyn’s home near Trawsfynydd.
Work on site will start this month and it is anticipated that the first tenants will be installed by spring 2020.
The new development will be managed on behalf of the Harbour Trust by Galeri Caernarfon Cyf, who will also be acting as project managers during construction.

The Cei Llechi project has attracted funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Welsh Government Regeneration funding, Visit Wales, Cadw and Cyngor Gwynedd Council.
It is part of a wider £15m scheme for the Caernarfon Waterfront Initiative, backed by £2.5m of EU funds through Visit Wales’ Tourism Attractor Destination programme.
The scheme includes enhancements to Galeri, the development of a new station building for the Welsh Highlands Railway, development of infrastructure links and improvements to Caernarfon Castle’s visitor facilities.
