Canaries aiming to make it four unbeaten

-

CRICHARD BIRCH AERNARFON Town will aim to make it four matches without defeat in the Welsh Premier League when they visit Aberystwyth Town this Friday (7.45pm).

And if the Cofis reproduce some of the attacking quality they showed in last Friday’s 2-2 draw with Bala Town at The Oval, Sean Eardley’s side have a great chance of achieving a positive result at Park Avenue.

Had the Canaries taken all of their first-half chances against Bala, they would have been out of sight by the interval.

Caernarfon took a 12th-minute lead when man of the match Danny Brookwell teased the Lakesiders’ defence, broke into the box and from an angle drilled a lovely shot across keeper Ashley Morris into the far corner.

The home side now took total control, Jamie Breese hitting both the post and bar after Morris failed to hold a tantalising Nathan Craig corner.

There were strong penalty claims from the Cofis when Noah Edwards went down in the box under challenge from Stuart J Jones, then Craig clipped the bar from a free kick wide right.

Darren Thomas blocked an attempted clearance by keeper Morris and, luckily for the visitors, the ball ricocheted wide.

Caernarfon fluffed a gilt-edged chance on 36 minutes when Edwards headed the ball on to Breese, who was in on goal, but the striker hurried his effort and missed the target badly.

The hosts were made to regret their missed opportunities when in extended time at the end of the first half, Chris Venables was left unmarked from a free kick to level with a glancing header.

Four minutes into the second period Caernarfon scored a magnificent goal. Brookwell broke from his own half and just kept on running before applying the precisest of finishes past Morris.

In the 54th minute, Bala made it 2-2. A poor free kick from the left was badly dealt with by the home defence and Steven Tames was found in space to score with ease.

Now the Lakesiders came into their own, Henry Jones unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside.

Breese blasted over from a good position before in the 87th minute, Bala’s Sean Smith was denied by a great Alex Ramsay save and follow-up efforts from Henry Jones and Mike Hayes were both blocked.

Had the visitors snatched it, it would have been a great injustice. A magnificent crowd of 932 witnessed an evening of great entertainment.
