SEX ATTACKER FACING PRISON

Portmadog man found guilty of indecent assault:

- Eryl Crump

AMAN has been warned to expect a jail sentence after he was found guilty of serious sexual assault charges by a jury.

Kelvin Gwynedd Evans had denied four charges and stood trial at Caernarfon Crown Court.

After a five-day trial the jury found him guilty of two charges of indecent assault and one of inciting a girl to commit an act of gross indecency with him.

But Evans, 57, who lives in a caravan at Cennin View, Bryncir, near Porthmadog, was cleared of a charge of rape.

The jury of five men and seven women had spent more than nine hours deliberating their verdicts.

Evans showed no emotion as the jury foreman announced the verdicts.

Sentence was adjourned for the preparation of reports.

Judge Huw Rees said: “I accede to the request for an adjournment for a pre- sentence report to be prepared: that doesn’t indicate what the sentence might be.

“I can tell you now it will be one of imprisonment.”

Evans was granted bail on condition he lives at his home address, surrender his passport and cooperate with the Probation Service in the preparation of the pre- sentence report. The court heard the offences took place in the 1970s when Evans was still a teenager.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, complained to police in 2016.

Evans was later arrested.

Evans had claimed the allegations were false.

He will be sentenced in mid-November.
