State Ballet’s visit has got it cracked

-

THE Russian State Ballet and Opera House is a gem for the Russian cultural traditions, bringing as they do the passion and vibrancy of Russian character to well-known ballets. Keeping their tour tradition, they return to Venue Cymru with vibrant and enchanting ballet productions, Giselle and The Nutcracker.

Giselle is the world’s most celebrated and romantic ballet, in which love triumphs over betrayal. It tells the story of gravely-ill peasant girl Giselle who falls in love with the handsome Prince Albrecht, who is unfaithful to her. When jealous rivals claim her fiancé, the heartbreak is too much for her to bear and, driven mad by despair, she takes her own life.

After her funeral, Prince Albrecht visits her grave to find the spirits of women betrayed returning to take revenge on their philandering fiancés by dancing them to death.

Only Giselle’s powerful love saves the remorseful Albrecht from this cruel fate, proving that love can conquer all.

Former award-winning Bolshoi Ballet Soloist Konstantin Uralsky has created an original production with a new twist to this classical ballet, with new sets and superb handmade costumes.

The Nutcracker is an eternal seasonal favourite and Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to see a production of one of the most famous ballets in the world.

Snow flurries, sweets, princes, magic and love are just some of the elements that will be brought together, full of familiar music such as the Waltz of the Flowers and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Jim Gillespie, Review Hub, said: “For many people, The Nutcracker is the true curtain-raiser to Christmas, bringing a special magic to the advent season. This production holds nothing back in any department.”

This ballet continues to capture the hearts and imaginations of all generations across the world.

It is a wonderful introduction to ballet while also retaining its appeal for anyone who is familiar with it. With an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality they never fail to delight audiences.

The Russian State Ballet and Opera House will be at Venue Cymru with The Nutcracker on Tuesday, November 6, 7.30pm, and with Giselle on Wednesday , November 7, 7.30pm.
