Demolition job by cup holders

-

HOLDERS Nefyn United stormed into the next round of the NWCFA Junior Cup with a 6-0 demolition job on Welsh Cup giant-killers Llandudno Amateurs.

It did not help the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division visitors that they arrived at Cae’r Delyn with only 10 men.

Nefyn played with a strong wind behind them in the first half and, on seven minutes, were in front as a Gethin Trenholme shot took a wicked deflection, wrong-footing keeper Danny Adams.

The Penwaig piled on the pressure but found it difficult to beat man-of-thematch Adams as he produced save after save.

In the 34th minute, the home side eventually scored again through captain Steve Jones.

Close to half time came the goal of the game as Daniel Roberts nutmegged two opponents and struck a curling effort into the net from 15 yards.

The second half was only one minute old when Llion Jones outpaced the visitors defence to make it 4-0.

With the wind behind Llandudno in the second half, the home side expected an onslaught, but it never materialised.

For the second half, the visitors were back to 11 men as manager Sandy Malone came on.

Llion Jones netted number five before, on 78 minutes, a scuffle broke out after Llion Jones was pushed into the crowd barriers. A number of players seemed to be involved, with Daniel Roberts and Malone both sent off.

In the 90th minute Llion Jones completed the scoring from a penalty he won himself. ● In round one of the Cwpan Gwynedd, Talysarn Celts thrashed Bontnewydd 6-1.

David Jones, Glyn Tomos (2), Alun Williams, Osian Jones and Jac Jones put the hosts 6-0 up before Ian Pleming replied.

Llanystumdwy lost 1-0 at Mynydd Tigers in the Gwynedd League. ● Welsh Alliance Division Two leaders Blaenau Amateurs are seven points clear at the summit after a 2-0 win over Holyhead Town at Cae Clyd.

Bryn Humphreys and Iwan Jones netted in the second half for the Quarrymen, whose keeper Gethin Jones produced a marvellous penalty save.

In Division One, Penrhyndeudraeth had to be content with a 1-1 draw at Llandudno Junction, George Sutherns with the away goal.
