Celts fall to a little bit of Magic

-

CAERNARFON Celts men’s basketball team fell 93-61 to Mold Magic last Friday in the first round of the Pat Sanders Cup.

Senior shooting guard Niall Williams led the Celts with 19 points with centre Rimvydas Alikevicius claiming 14.

Despite a strong showing from both of these key players, the Celts struggled from behind the arc with sparse success from downtown handing the Magic too much possession which they turned to their advantage.

Celts Under 14s went down 36-26 to the Mold Magic U14’s in the first game of the North Wales Basketball Junior League.

With half the squad playing their first ever game at this level it was a great experience for everyone involved with rookie point guard Ben Jones-Ellis leading the effort as the first half ended Celts 14-16 Magic.

Celts came out in the third quarter full of energy but were matched by their opponents who also had the better success at the basket. Two late baskets in the third period from Celts centre Gethin Williams kept them within touching distance going into the last quarter at 18-24. Despite losing the last period 8-12 there were plenty of positives for the Celts youngsters to take heart from.

Celts U16s have a home game at Caernarfon against Ynys Mon Celts and the seniors welcome Wrexham Warriors to the Brailsford Centre, Bangor, on Thursday night.
