Organ plays a vital role in victory
CAERNARFON Celts Seniors beat Wrexham Warriors by the narrowest of margins at 53-52 in a much-anticipated North Wales Basketball League top-of-the-table clash.
A tight first quarter finished Celts 12 Warriors 13.
Two quick threepointers from Lewis Organ and Niall Williams at the start of the second quarter gave the Celts a lead they were able to protect for the period as they went into the second half 28-24 ahead.
Another tight quarter followed as the Celts laboured, eventually going into the final quarter with a seven-point advantage.
A resurgence from the Warriors meant both teams had accrued 50 points with less than a minute to play.
An excellent three-point basket from Organ, followed by a two-point reply from the Warriors, saw an exciting end to a tense game and victory by the tightest of gaps to Caernarfon,
MVP and top-scorer for Celts was Organ (13 points).
Celts Under-18s enjoyed a 71-39 victory against Mold Magic U18s in a North Wales Junior League game.
An excellent first quarter from a determined Celts meant they took a 12-point lead into the second quarter.
Another quick six points on the break from Wales’ guard Sean Jones put the Caernarfon side firmly in the driving seat and they went half time 32-12 in front.
Despite a good resurgence in the third quarter from Magic, they were unable to match the Celts’ fast-breaking basketball.
MVP and top-scorer for Celts was Sean Jones (27 points) with Cai Jones scoring 15.
Caernarfon Celts Under-16s defeated Ynys Môn Celts 81-52.
A 10-point quarter from promising guard Connor Roberts and a further eight from Guto Whiteside Thomas had given Celts a 41-24 half-time lead.
MVP for the Celts was Joe Hooton (10 points) with Connor Roberts top-scoring on 19.
