Girls with great attitude march into last eight of FAW Cup

-

CAERNARFON Town Under-16 girls have matched the club’s ladies team by qualifying for the FAW Welsh Cup quarter-finals.

The Canaries youngsters will visit Newport-based Villa Dino Christchurch in the last eight on December 9.

Town U16s secured a quarterfinal spot after drawing 1-1 with neighbours Bethel in their final group game.

Caernarfon edged the first half, Tesni Hughes shooting narrowly over and Gwen Roberts had an effort blocked before Elin Jones scored.

Bethel equalised early in the second half.

As the game progressed Caernarfon started to dominate possession and created opportunities only to be thwarted by a strong Bethel defence,

Town had a penalty claim when Lisa Jones appeared to be brought down by the keeper, but the referee ruled otherwise.

Caernarfon manager Dei Pritchard said: “We are very excited to have progressed into the quarter-finals of this prestigious cup and the girls, myself and the coaching team of Martin, Owain and Huw are really looking forward to our trip to South Wales on December 9.

“This is even more pleasing given that this is a new team of relatively young players but ones who are extremely keen, committed and have a great attitude.“ OTHER LAST EIGHT TIES: Landore v Penrhyn Bay, AFC Porth v Barry Town United, Briton Ferry Llansawel v North Football Association.
