... but not everyone’s happy about filming
THE filming of The Crown in Caernarfon has angered some pro-independence campaigners.
Postcards announcing a protest rally in Caernarfon next July to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the investiture of Prince Charles as the Prince of Wales were circulating in the streets of Caernarfon last week.
They call for the boycott of any proposal to install Prince William as Prince of Wales to succeed his father.
And, as well as the anonymously circulated postcards, a veteran independence campaigner has posted an online blog urging Welsh nationalists to protest at the filming of the hit Netflix series The Crown.
Gethin ap Gruffydd is a former member of the Free Wales Army, which was one of the groups who organised protests against the 1969 Investiture of Prince Charles.
In his blog, Mr ap Gruffydd wrote: “It will be interesting to see how many will make a rush to sell out their homeland and participate in another insult to our historic memory again but more interesting will be how many Caernarfon/ Gwynedd patriots will rush to picket protest this filming or just duck and dive out of the way.”
Mr ap Gruffydd added: “As I have stated, if Caernarfon/Gwynedd does not take the lead then it is no go and so no protest re filming, then we might as well call it a day as will any future struggle for freedom.
“It is, however, worthwhile pointing out the fact that The Crown is a worldwide Netflix affair so without doubt any protest, not least major demonstration, will hit big time Cymru/ Wales, British Isles and world news and command big attention to our cause of Welsh independence.”
Mr ap Gruffydd has been active in promoting an annual rally at Cilmeri near Builth Wells to commemorate the death in December 1282 of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last Welsh-born Prince of Wales.
