Electrical firm ‘could no longer pay staff’

-

A restructuring company is helping place one of the region’s biggest electrical contractors into liquidation.

Staff at Falconer Electricals were given the news the business was being wound up last month.

Our sister paper the Daily Post has now seen a letter handed to staff which explains that RSM Restructuring Advisory were helping place the firm into a creditors voluntary liqiudation.

The letter from director Keith Williams said the decision was made because of the company’s “financial difficulties” and that it was no longer in a position to pay staff.

Its closure is a major economic blow to the area with around 70 staff employed at the business.

Several local electrical firms have though made offers of employment to affected staff.

The firm had been founded by Brian Falconer in the 1980s but he left the business in 2002 – with the company taken on by directors Keith Williams and Andrew Etheridge. It handled a large number of major schemes in North Wales, carrying out work at places like Harlech Castle, Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and the Snowdon summit building.

Mr Williams has told staff that claims for arrears of pay and redundancy will be handled by the liquidator once officially appointed.

He asked workers to send a statement of claims to RSM.

A spokeswoman for RSM said they had not been formally appointed and therefore could not comment.

It is one of a number of economic blows to north west Wales since the start of the year.

In January REHAU announced it plans to close its Amlwch factory after more than 40 years. That news has put 104 jobs at risk on Anglesey.

It also followed the announcement that Hitachi had put the development of Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station on hold.
