Town pays respects to pub landlord Bryan:

FUNERAL OF POPULAR EX-POLICEMAN AND CHOIR SINGER

- Jayme Hudspith

ATOWN centre came to a standstill as one of its much loved characters was laid to rest on Friday.

Caernarfon man Bryan Williams was described by residents as “worth his weight in gold” following his death earlier this month.

The 74-year-old former policeman was previously landlord of the Morgan Lloyd pub on the Maes for several years, which earned him the affectionate nickname “Bryan Morgan Lloyd” around the town. More recently however, the father and grandfather worked as a taxi driver and also sang bass for Côr Meibion y Brythoniaid for 30 years. But many will have come to know Bryan as the father of cancer campaigner Irfon Williams, who tragically died in May 2017. Mr Williams

played an important part in his son’s #teamirfon campaign and helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity before and after Irfon’s death.

Residents from all walks of life stopped to pay their last respects to Mr Williams as he embarked on his final journey.

The hearse carrying Mr Williams’ body circled the town’s Maes, stopping briefly in front of the pub where Mr Williams had pulled pints behind the bar in a touching tribute.

The vehicle then made its way to the crematorium in Bangor where the funeral took place.

Since his death, scores of people have come forward to share their fond memories of Mr Williams.

Friend Bryn Jones said: “He was one of the lads and never had a cross word to say about people. He will be missed in Caernarfon as he was a very popular man. Some people are approachable and Bryan was one of those.”

Côr Meibion y Brythoniaid Phillip Jones said Bryan was known for his “quick wit” and was “the life and soul of the party”.
