Branch crushed 68-yr-old

A MAN was taken to hospital after being assaulted at a house party.

Police were called out to reports of an attack at an address in Trem y Moelwyn, in Penrhyndeudraeth, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We were called during the early hours of Saturday morning, to reports a man had been assaulted at a residential address.

“An ambulance took the man to Ysbyty Gwynedd. Enquiries are ongoing.”

On Saturday police taped off the road in Penrhyndeudraeth following the incident.

Officers remained at the scene until Saturday afternoon.

A Welsh Ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called on Saturday, June 15, at approximately 2.46am to reports of a person having been assaulted in the general area of Penrhyndeudraeth.

“We responded with one ambulance and we were supported by the police services.” A RETIRED scientist died after being crushed by a tree branch in a field behind his Gwynedd home, an inquest heard last Thursday.

A conclusion of accidental death was recorded at Caernarfon on Dr John Benjamin Wynne, 68, of Llanbedr, last November.

PC Mathew Raymond, who went to the scene with the fire service, said: “We saw quite a large tree on top of a male.

“His chest was facing the ground and a large branch, probably about a foot in diameter, on the top of his back. There was no sign he was conscious.”

He and the fire brigade lifted the branch.

The tree had been felled earlier.

North West Wales senior coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones said the cause of death was compression of the chest.

He said that Dr Wynne had decided to cut the branches but the tree was “unstable” and must have rotated so a branch turned on top of the pensioner.
