Military veterans do ‘Snowdon Super Six’

A top-of-the-range BMW appears to have been abandoned in a Gwynedd car park.

The blue BMW, which when new in 2016 would have been worth around £28,000, has been badly damaged in the months since it was first parked in the multi-storey near Caernarfon town centre.

Motorists using the car park have said they are frustrated by the fact the space it occupies could have generated the council more than £2,000 since October, when the permit on the A TEAM of military veterans who embarked on a gruelling 24-hour fundraisin­g challenge say the experience was one of the toughest of their lives.

The eight ex-soldiers, who are all former Royal Marines or members of the Parachute vehicle expired.

Gwynedd Council parking wardens have issued at least three parking tickets for the vehicle as they can be clearly seen on the windscreen which has been smashed. The bonnet has also been damaged and one of the windscreen wipers bent and broken.

Council taxpayer Alan Wyn Hughes of Penygroes added: “It means this vehicle is potentiall­y costing Gwynedd Council £12 a day or £84 a week in lost revenue. Since the parking Regiment and all sustained injuries during their service, set out to trek all six routes up and down Snowdon within a 24-hour period.

At 3am on June 1, the men started the “Snowdon Super Six” challenge. permit expired at the end of last October it’s cost the council more than £2,300.

“And this is a council that is claiming to be short of cash.”

In response a Gwynedd Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the matter and are in discussion­s with enforcemen­t agents about the removal of the vehicle.”

This involved walking a total distance of 50 miles and ascending more than 18,000 feet in total, while carrying 10kg of equipment.

Four of the eight veterans completed the challenge within 24 hours.
