Adventure tourism boom boosting well-known cafe
ARENOWNED cafe and campsite in Gwynedd is thriving as adventure tourism booms.
Eric Jones Cafe and Campsite in Tremadog, near Porthmadog, has been a well known meeting point for climbers, cyclists and bikers for 40 years.
Last year legendary climber Eric Jones sold up to barrister Jo and her partner Gareth, who comes from Denbighshire.
Despite Eric departing the business close to Craig Bwlch y Moch has continued to flourish and is still a mecca to adventurers who flock to the area.
Jo said: “We had been looking for a campsite in the area and saw this one, we don’t have any climbing background but wanted to be in this area.
“Although I don’t know anything about climbing we know how to keep climbers well fed and all the other people who come here.
“We have seen trade increase
from a year ago and we are benefiting from the adventure sector doing so well, there seems to be more interest in climbing.
“We do gets asked a few things about the cliff and we are learning all the time.
“Eric also still comes in.” Since arriving they have expanded the camping side of the business – adding new glamping facilities.
They have also added extra services like offering free breakfasts as part of the deals to stay there.
Jo said: “This was done to cut the waste being left here where people were often leaving food they hadn’t eaten and all the packaging it came in.
“It has made a big difference to the amount of waste here.
“We have also installed solar panels for the glamping tents and plan to do the same at the cafe to do our bit on the eco side.

people to leave their cars at the car park, with this money going to Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue, the air ambulance and BMC Access and Conservation Trust.”
