WIDOWERS AND WIDOWS: Social group covering Anglesey, Bangor, Caernarfon and Llyn, set up for widowed people to enjoy life again in the company of other widowed people who understand. As a guide it is suggested people aged 50-70 will get the most from membership, as it aims to be active, out and about. At the moment it meets regularly in Bangor, Menai Bridge and Caernarfon and also meet up weekly for walks, and go to opera, ballet, gigs, cinema, meals, pub quiz and weekends away. BLOOD CANCER: If you or any of your family of friends are affected by lymphoma, myeloma, leukaemia or any other blood cancer, there is now a support group that meets on the first Thursday of alternate months in Bangor from 7pm to 8.30pm at St David’s outpatients department, Ysbyty Gwynedd. As well as meeting others with similar experiences, there will be interesting speakers and informative discussion and the kettle is always on. PALS SUPPER CLUB: (People Alone Like Socializing) Gwynedd, Anglesey & Conwy. DYSLEXIA AWARENESS: The Miles Dyslexia Centre will host a programme of events over August 20-22. These will be a series of lectures and practical workshops, suitable for educators and parents, from 10am-4pm, covering such topics as: Recognising and Identifying Dyslexia; Multisensory Teaching Approaches; The Social and Emotional Effects of Dyslexia; Dyscalculia and Maths; Teaching Reading and Spelling. This series of lectures/ workshops will provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about Dyslexia / Dyscalculia alongside the MDC team who will be available to offer expert advice and guidance. OPEN DAY: One of Blaenau Ffestiniog’s biggest employers, SEREN, is holding an ‘Open Day’ at the company’s 3* 10 bedroom hotel in nearby Llan Ffestiniog on Thursday, July 11, between 10am and 6pm, the purpose of which is to highlight the range of activities it has on offer. The social enterprise and registered charity was established in 1996 to offer professional care support for people with learning disabilities in the south of Gwynedd. Over the years it has developed a number of commercial operations that include reuse and recycling of furniture and clothing/textiles, an arts and crafts centre, retail shops, market garden and it’s most recent project, a 3*10 bedroom hotel.
