Cofis back on top after easy victory

- Cricket

CAERNARFON regained control of their North Wales Cricket League Division Four title destiny thanks to a 10-wicket home success over Llandudno seconds.

The home side followed up their low-scoring win over bottom-of-the-table Rhewl, which ended in a four-wicket success, as they made light work of their young opponents during what turned out to be a one-sided affair which came as a result of Hannah Thornton’s side only bringing 10 available players.

The visitors struggled for most of their time in the middle and were skittled for just 29 which included a top score of six by Dan Jones. Ian Morgan was in relentless mood with the ball and helped himself to five wickets for the loss of just six runs from a nine over spell, with Barry Roberts (3-15) and Llyr Erddyn Davies (3-2) claiming three scalps apiece at the combined expense of 18.

As expected, the hosts reached their target in double-quick time without losing any wickets, securing a comfortable victory after just 10 overs at the crease.

Jason Parry, who took 5-14 last week against Rhewl, finished the innings unbeaten on 16, and opening partner and Cofis’ captain Huw Erddyn Davies was also there at the end to post seven not out. There was another morale boost for the promotion hopefuls as other results went their way to allow them to return to the top, with a slender fourpoint cushion over Conwy seconds ahead of their trip to another struggling side, Marchwiel and Wrexham seconds, on Saturday, June 29.
