Caernarfon add Cavanagh to coaching team

-

CAERNARFON Town have announced the appointment of Dave Cavanagh as their new head of coaching.

Cavanagh is no stranger to the club as he was assistant manager to Lee Dixon during a very successful three-year period for the club between 2012-15 and returned to the club in October 2018 as Head of Academy Youth Phase Development.

He is a UEFA/FAW Senior and Elite Youth A Licence holder.

Vice-chairman Paul Evans welcomes the appointment and believes that Cavanagh will become an integral part of the club’s future: “Dave is well-known amongst the North Wales football scene and has over 20 years’ experience of coaching within the Welsh game,” he told the club’s website.

“This experience, together with his vision for the development and growth of the club’s Academy and work in the community, made him the outstanding candidate for the role.

“We are looking forward to working with Dave and seeing these plans come to fruition.

“We as a club also wish to thank the FAW for assisting and guiding us during this whole recruitment process.”

After six very successful years at the Oval, goalkeeping coach Mike Innes has decided to leave the club.

Former manager Lee Dixon brought the goalkeeping coach to Caernarfon during the summer of 2013 and Innes has been an integral part of the first team management team ever since, subsequently serving the club under Iwan Williams and Sean Eardley.

In a club statement, it said: “We thank Mike for his unstinting and loyal service during his time with us and wish him the very best of luck in the future.”

The Cofis have continued to strengthen their squad for the 2019-20 campaign with the announcement that Gruff John Williams and Sam Jones have signed for the club.

Williams, who is 24 and a former youth player at the Oval, joins Caernarfon from Porthmadog whilst 19-year-old Jones joins from Bangor City.

Assistant manager Eardley met the latest additions to the Cofi squad and stated that he cannot wait to start working with the highly-rated duo.

“I’m delighted that we’ve brought Gruff and Sam to the club,” he said.

“They’re two very good signings and very good players I’m really looking forward to working with.

“Gruff works hard and the times I’ve seen him play this year he has been very consistent and he’ll offer us a lot of versatility across the back and also gives us a midfield option.

“One of the things that struck me about Sam last year is that he plays with no fear.

“I saw him three or four times last season, including the game against us, and he’s an absolute pest really, very hard to deal with and works hard, which I’m sure the Cofi Army will appreciate.

“They are both very good additions to us and will add a lot of competition for places, which will be healthy.

“Pre-season starts in a couple of weeks and I’m really looking forward to working with both of them.”

With the pre-season fixture schedule fast approaching, the club are in the process of preparing season tickets.
