- Steve Bagnall

AN elderly woman who was flown to hospital after a collision with a car was knocked out of a wheelchair, it has emerged.

Our sister paper, the Daily Post understands she was being pushed along the A496 in Llanbedr, in Gwynedd last Wednesday (pictured), when what appears to be an unfortunate accident happened.

She was flown to the North Staffordshire City General Hospital by the Wales Air Ambulance, after what was described as a “serious RTC” by North Wales Police officers.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

Sergeant Nicola Grimes-Williams, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The collision involved a Silver Mitsubishi Outlander which was travelling towards the Barmouth area. I am urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or

anybody who may have been travelling along the A496 and who has dashcam footage to contact us as soon as possible.”

The road was partially closed for five hours after the lady was hit at around 11.20am.

The Welsh Ambulance Service sent one land ambulance and the air ambulance to the incident which happened outside The Victoria Inn pub.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We were called on Wednesday, June 26, at approximately 11.27am to reports of a road traffic incident involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian in Llanbedr.

“We responded with one ambulance and we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance.

“One patient was transported by air ambulance to the North Staffordshire City General Hospital.”

The road remained partially blocked until around 4.30pm while North Wales Police dealt with the incident with officers warning motorists via social media to avoid the area.

Locals have described the area as a “dangerous crossing” adding the road is “notoriously bad”.

One resident who works in the area said: “It’s a horrible road and it’s not nice to hear what’s happened. The road has been busy all day and it was an accident waiting to happen. It was always going to be a young child or an elderly person and unfortunately that’s what’s happened today.”
