Cofis stay top with 10-wicket win

- Cricket

CAERNARFON stayed top of Division Four as they coasted to a 10-wicket win at Marchwiel and Wrexham.

The home side won the toss and batted first and were dismissed for 30 all out in 34 overs with opener Nicholas Woodcock top scoring with just six.

There were some exceptional performances with the ball for the Cofis as Simon Davis took 5-1 with seven maidens and he was assisted by Llyr Erddyn Davies and Monis Altaf who both took 2-6 and Barry Roberts (1-15).

In response, Caernarfon reached their target in just eight overs with openers Jason Parry (21 not out) and Huw Erddyn Davies (7 not out) steering the visitors home.

The maximum 15 points kept Caernarfon a point clear of secondplaced Conwy.

It was the second successive comfortable victory for the Cofis’ having made light work of Llandudno seconds last week in what turned out to be a one-sided affair which came as a result of Hannah Thornton’s side only bringing ten available players for the contest. The visitors struggled for most of their time in the middle and were skittled for just 29 which included a top score of six by Dan Jones.

Ian Morgan was in relentless mood with the ball and helped himself to five wickets for the loss of just six runs from a nine over spell, with Roberts (3-15) and Davies (3-2) claiming three scalps apiece at the combined expense of 18.

As expected, the hosts reached their target in double-quick time without losing any wickets.
