A NEW sponsor has been confirmed for the Welsh Rugby Union National League structure for the upcoming campaign.

The governing body announced that Specsavers will take over the sponsorship after agreeing a three-year deal with the WRU, which will also see them become the sponsor of the National Cup competitions.

Geraint John, WRU community director, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Specsavers on board as title sponsor of the WRU National Leagues and cup competitions.

“The leagues are the bread and butter of grassroots rugby in Wales and the cup competitions provide an opportunity for clubs of all levels to make special memories that will last a lifetime.

“The news is a real boost for the profile of the club game in Wales and we look forward to working with Specsavers to create a real buzz next season.”

The announcement came following the release of the fixtures across all leagues for the 2019/20 season with Specsavers One North throwing up some intriguing opening day encounters for sides across the region.

Llangefni will host Caernarfon in what promises to be a thrilling derby clash to open the season, with newly promoted Dolgellau handed a tricky trip to a powerful Bala side.

A stiff challenge awaits Bro Ffestiniog in their first competitive outing of the season, with a visit from defending champions Llandudno, and Bethesda make the trip to 2018 title winners Nant Conwy.

Runners-up Pwllheli will play their first game on home soil when Denbigh visit, and Specsavers Two North side Bangor open their season away to Shotton Steel.

Specsavers Three North promotion hopefuls Holyhead start their quest for the crown at home to Wrexham seconds, with Menai Bridge and Llangefni seconds on the road at Rhosllanerchrugog and Mold seconds respectively.

The WRU published a new structure which all clubs throughout Wales received a notification and clubs who were unhappy had until June 5 to appeal.
