MANSION ‘IN FINAL STAGE OF SALE’:

CURRENT OWNER ‘UNABLE TO REALISE DREAM FOR THE SITE’

- Owen Hughes

THE joint owner of Plas Glynllifon mansion says they are selling the site – with final negotiations taking place with a hotel operator.

Paul and Rowena Williams bought Plas Glynllifon near Caernarfon in 2016 – promising a multi-million pound redevelopment into a luxury hotel.

They also took on Seiont Manor hotel in Llanrug – as well as agreeing a deal for the derelict Plas Brereton estate, also in Caernarfon.

But the Glynllifon scheme has stalled in recent months while the deal to buy Plas Brereton collapsed

last year. Mid-Wales hotels sold by the couple also closed suddenly with police and trading standards officers from Powys County Council looking into the situation – although police later said no action was being taken.

They were joined by ‘finance guy’ Myles Cunliffe at the start of the year who entered a 50/50 partnership with the couple.

At the time they said they hoped to unlock further funding and open Glynllifon as a wedding venue in 2019.

But in recent months work has stopped at the site and concerns raised over what was happening to the mansion project.

Now Mr Cunliffe has told our sister paper, the Daily Post they were in the final stages of selling the site after coming to the conclusion they are not able to complete the redevelopment. He said: “At the mansion (Glynllifon) it has not been feasible to take the site forward, we have not been able to realise Paul’s dream for the site and need a hotelier now to take the site to the next level.

“We are now in the final stage of negotiations with a hotel operator.

“We hope to complete that deal very soon.”

He said he could not provide further details until that deal is completed.
