Good Samaritan shopper reveals dramatic reason for act of kindness

MYSTERY WOMAN BEHIND ‘LOVELY GESTURE’ FOUND

- Jayme Hudspith

AMYSTERY woman hailed as a good Samaritan after paying for a supermarket customer’s shopping has come forward to describe the shocking event which led to her act of kindness.

The “lovely” gesture at Aldi in Rhuddlan was described in a Facebook post by the daughter of the customer who had lost her purse and couldn’t pay for the shopping.

The post was shared hundreds of times after she said she wanted to find the woman who had stepped in to help her mum, with many praising the actions of the kind shopper.

She has now been revealed as Katherine Miller, 47, from Manchester, who told North Wales Live how the treatment her husband received after a heart attack the day before the Aldi incident inspired her to act at the supermarket.

Referring to the outpouring of support for her actions, Mrs Miller said: “I did not expect this at all. I could see her patting down her jeans and I’ve been there.”

She said she didn’t think anybody knew about what had happened until nurses at the hospital treating her husband asked if she was the good Samaritan.

“I’m so touched by the comments and I want to thank the lady and her daughter for their kind words, but I don’t need thanking,” said Mrs Miller.

“I was just so thankful to the people of Wales for their kindness and help.

“Everyone I’ve come into contact with has been amazing so I wanted to do one small act.”

Mrs Miller and her family were staying at The Warren holiday park in Abersoch when her husband Dominic Miller, 49, suffered the heart attack on June 29.

Staff from the park called the emergency services and administered first aid to Mr Miller, including using a defibrillator on him.

“Had it not been for the staff at The Warren acting so quickly, being trained in first aid and having access to a defibrillator, my husband wouldn’t be here now,” said Mrs Miller.

“My husband had been to the gym, he is normally fit and healthy, he doesn’t smoke or anything, so it was quite a shock when the staff told me.

“The staff at The Warren and the emergency services – everyone was so amazing.

“I feel like I owe the whole of Wales a huge thank you.

“Staff even stayed with my children while I was with my husband, and the treatment we received at the hospital was just amazing.”

Mr Miller was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, but has been discharged and is now resting at home.

“We are planning to come back to The Warren in a few weeks to thank everyone in person for everything that they did,” said Mrs Miller.

“I had never realised how critical and important it is to have a defibrillator around until now.

“I am everyone.” so grateful to
