Pwllheli do a fine double over in-form Mochdre

-

PWLLHELI gained an impressive win in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division as they clinched the double over in-form Mochdre.

The visitors batted first and scored 177 all out in just over 37 overs with opener Tristan Coetzee scoring 70 with Gareth Davies (4-43) and Kyle Brown (3-9) the pick of the Mochdre bowlers.

Chasing 178 to win, the home side were all out for 169 in just under 50 overs with captain Matt Humphreys scoring 38 as Iwan Moore took 3-11 for the Gwynedd side.

Captain Morgan Murray-Williams, Coetzee and Logan Rhys Morgan all took two wickets a piece.

In Division Four, Caernarfon were left without a game after their opponents Marchwiel & Wrexham conceded the game.

Last week the Cofis were beaten by championship rivals Conwy Seconds.

The Cofis managed to secure a total of 171-4 from their 40 overs at the crease, with number three batsman Ian Morgan producing an innings of genuine quality to end the day unbeaten on 66, which included nine boundaries.

Opener Grant Peisley was another who shone during his lengthy spell in the middle, with the wicket-keeper making 51 before he played a Phillip Michael Davies delivery into the hands of Sion Keir.

Monis Altaf provided some valuable runs during the final stages of the innings to finish on 19 not out, and Davies was the pick of the visiting bowlers after claiming two wickets for the loss of 31 runs.

A sensational partnership from Andrew Davies and Richard Windmill ensured the away side reached their required target with plenty of overs in hand, with the former smashing 12 boundaries on his way to 88 from 137 balls.

Windmill also hit a dozen fours to finish unbeaten on 66 from 64 deliveries, giving Conwy’s second team a victory which they built upon by beating Llangollen last weekend to move 30 points clear of the Cofis.

Caernarfon play host to second from bottom side Rhewl this Saturday.

Back in the top flight, Bangor are now in pole position to win the league title after beating local rivals and defending champions Menai Bridge by five wickets.

In the eagerly-anticipated clash, the Anglesey side won the toss and batted first but were restricted to 177-9 in 41 overs with opener Jack Gower top scoring with 31.

Bangor captain Gareth W Edwards took 3-30 and he was wellsupported by Christopher Dawson (3-46) and Franco Kasner (2-18).

In reply, the visitors scored 178-5 in 40 overs thanks largely to opener David Winter who scored 74 off 101 balls. The win puts Bangor 10 points clear of Bridge, who remain in second place.

Llandudno kept their recent impressive form going with a 24-run over Brymbo.

Opener Sam Rimmington scored 88 in Llandudno’s 252-6 off 40 overs with Luke Kenworthy hitting 70 as Daniel Parry and Wayne Smith took three wickets each for Brymbo.

The home side were given a revised target of 257 from 40 overs but they fell short, scoring 232-9 despite opener Gareth Pugh getting them off to a flying start by scoring 87.
