Bucks win Caernarfon summer league

THE Caernarfon Celts Summer League came to a close last week at Canolfan Brailsford in Bangor after six weeks of group games and two weeks of play-off games.

In the championsh­ip game on Thursday, Bangor Bucks defeated Llandudno Lightning in a tight game, winning 58-50.

Llifon Torr was MVP (most valuable player) and top scorer (20) for Bucks and John Opiala was MVP and Top Scorer for Lightning.

In the 3rd place play-off game, Caernarfon Kings beat Bethel Bulls 67-55, with Jack Bamber named MVP and top scorer (23) for Kings, whilst Victory Ezeofor was MVP for Bulls and Aled Gwilym Jones was top scorer (24).

The previous Thursday had seen the two teams placed fourth in their groups, Bethesda Hornets and Holyhead Magic, face off, with the Magic winning 58-44.

MVP and top scorer for Holyhead Magic was James Owen (17), MVP and top scorer (20) for Bethesda Hornets was Ahmed Ali.

The second game on the night was between the two third placed teams in their groups, Arfon Raptors and Dreigiau Dyffryn Nantlle.

The Raptors took the spoils, winning by 66 to 57.

MVP for the Raptors was Cameron Jones (24) sharing the team’s top scorer accolade with point guard Rhun Hughes.

MVP for Dreigiau was Bryn Hughes (15) and top scorer was Niall Williams with 16 points.

The summer league’s co-MVPs were Williams and Gwilym Jones with three MVP games each.

The top scorer was Williams with 127 points, followed by Gwilym Jones on 116, and Cameron Jones on 97.
