Man claims he found cotton bud tip in meal

SUPERMARKET BAFFLED OVER HOW ITEM GOT IN MEAL OR WHETHER IT GOT IN AFTER BEING SOLD

- Amelia Shaw

AMAN claimed he found the tip of a cotton bud in a pasta dish he bought from a supermarket.

Bryn Jones, 60, said he purchased the Morrisons BBQ chicken pasta dish in the Caernarfon store around June 2.

Once he got home he claims he opened the product and had the shock of his life when he spotted the tip of a cotton bud mixed in with the pasta.

He says he got in touch with the company’s customer service team the following day to make a complaint but says he doesn’t feel like they’ve been taking his concerns seriously.

Having investigated the claims, a spokesperson for the supermarket said it was unclear how the item got into the product or whether it got into the product after it was sold.

Mr Jones, who works in the catering business, said: “I don’t feel like Morrisons have investigated this properly at all. I’ve been e-mailing back and forth with them since the beginning of June and they still can’t tell me how the tip of the cotton bud ended up in the food. The products should have been recalled immediately.

“What if a child had been eating it? It could easily have been missed. “I’m lucky I spotted it straight away. “It looked like the tip of the cotton bud has been cut which means it could have been quite sharp.

“They asked me to send the packaging and the offending item back for them to investigate which I did so with a letter attached detailing what had happened.

“I didn’t hear anything from them and when I got in touch they said they’d received the letter but not the packaging which I can’t get my head around as they were attached to each other. I have been offered compensation in the form of store vouchers but that’s not why I was reporting it. I got in touch to tell them hoping they would make sure no other products had the same issue because it’s quite clearly a choking hazard. I asked them to keep me in the loop but I’ve not heard anything from them since June 25.”

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We’ve concluded our investigation and it’s unclear how the cotton bud got into the product, or whether it got into the product after we sold it.”
