TVWStock free festival returns

-

TVWSTOCK started seven years ago as a very small venture but has grown in the last three years through its development of music links in the area and also with a major London and New York promoter who is very much in the business of encouraging emerging talent.

Ahead of this week’s TVWStock 2019, here’s what the organisers have to say...

“As part of our encouragement of the development of musicians with genuine potential, we are promoting this year some of the cream of North Wales emerging talent amongst our headline acts: Eve Goodman, Hannah Willwood and Courteous Thief as well as providing a few introductory slots for musicians with less experience.

“Sonia Stein is a London-based singer songwriter. Her recently released single, London Used To Be So Cool, currently has over 1.2 million hits on You Tube. Her previous singles picked up over 3 million views and over half a million Spotify streams and following invited support appearances with Dido she is scheduled to tour the USA and South America with her later this year.

“The music she creates is beautifully anchored and she creates songs that are full of drama and complexity. Not surprisingly a love of classic songwriters such as Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell is evident at the core of her music. She has been creating melodic pop hooks since she

was 15 years old, a sound she has brought to fruition working in London on her recently released debut album with Liam Howe, the producer of Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding.

“As a result of our Promoter links the following artists will be performing at the festival. All of them currently have records on release and are in the middle of completing or have just finished major tours, some in support of major stars like Dido: Martin Rafferty and the Northern City Lights, Sonia Stein, Tiggi Hawke, The Brink, Rejectionist Front, Lion O King, The Hallows, and Carrington Mc Duffle.

“There are also a few particularly talented artists who we have been supporting for a few years and who are now on the verge of breaking through. Sam Lyon has just completed her biggest national tour in support of her latest record and Love Tattoo have just cut their first album which they are currently promoting.

“Our youngest performers now find themselves in our professionally adjudicated competition for the Mayor’s Trophy. However young Astrid Sings Jazz transcends this as she has already reached the finals of The Voice Kids 2018 as the choice of Will I Am.

“We try to appeal to a wide audience to ensure that you don’t find yourself in unfamiliar territory. The original talent is therefore backed up by some of the best covers bands in North Wales and the North West of England.

“Enjoy and if you particularly like some of the artists, make it clear on the day!

“Llandudno Town Council has supported the festival for the last six years and the Mayor has always opened the festival accompanied by Town Cryer Billy Baxter.

“There is a strong movement in these times of austerity of Musicians for the Homeless and the festival’s support for Hope Restored really does encourage participation in the festival by musicians who are prepared to travel considerable distances to perform for us. Almost everyone involved in mounting the festival, give their services for free. Every penny raised each day goes to our local Homeless charity and foodbank, Hope Restored.

“The operating costs are met by grant awarding bodies and event business sponsors who wish to support the charity.

“Equipment is hired or loaned from local companies especially Venue Cymru with whom we have developed a strong link. We therefore hope that you will give generously, not just once but on each day you attend the festival as you would with a commercial venture.

“TVWales is a not for profit voluntary organisation that seeks to advance musical talent by encouraging young and relatively unknown musicians, especially those capable of going to the next level and have a good gig record and recordings, by showcasing their talents at not for profit concerts. In particular the not for profit Music festival, TVWstock, as a major summer tourist attraction on Llandudno promenade.

“We develop networking and partnerships with businesses and organisations in support of this and as a by-product raise funds to support homeless and disadvantaged charities in the Llandudno Area through the events we organise.”

TVWStock 2019 will take place in Llandudno from Friday, August 23 to Monday, August 26. Entrance is free although donations are greatly appreciated.
