Nefyn come out on top in cup thriller

THERE was plenty of local football action last weekend as a number of teams played in the first qualifying round of the Welsh Cup.

A brace from Carl Jones plus Dylan Sion Jones, Tomos Jones, Guto Roberts and Daniel Roberts were Nefyn United’s scorers as they won a 6-4 thriller against Llandudno Amateurs with Aidan Bell (2), Scott Court and Mike Lauchlan replying for the Conwy side.

Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs edged an enthrallin­g 5-4 clash at Bro Goronwy after extra time. Player-manager Ceri Roberts (2), Iwan Jones, Sion Roberts and Alun Hughes saw the Welsh Alliance Division One side through, but a hat-trick from Jac Thomas and Ross Mark goal meant their hosts ran them close.

In the Welsh Alliance Division One, Penrhyndeu­draeth were beaten 2-0 at home by Denbigh Town, who made it six wins out of seven.

Mark Roberts headed in a Stuart Vernon cross to make it 1-0 at half time before Jake Walker added a second from close range on 82 minutes.

Jake Thomas and Alan Mark Owen grabbed the goals which earned Llanrug United a 2-0 win over Greenfield at Eithin Duon.

Nantlle Vale won an eagerly-awaited clash at Llanberis 3-1 thanks to goals from Aaron Thomas, Aaron Hughes and Cynan Davies after Owain Jones had put the home side ahead.

In Division Two, Iwan Owen scored a hat-trick for Y Felinheli in a 5-0 hammering of Pwllheli with Rhys Parry and Carwyn Dafydd both getting on the scoresheet.

In the Reserves Division, Iestyn Worth hit both for Nantlle Vale in a 2-2 draw against St Asaph City with John Newton and Charlie Lyons earning the Saints a point.

In the Gwynedd League, Bontnewydd were beaten 2-0 by Bodedern thanks to an Andy Clarke double while Talysarn Celts won 5-3 at Glantraeth.

Jac Jones, Rhodri Jones, Gwyn Thomas and Luke Baum (2) sealed the points for the visitors, Cian Evans (2) and Aaron Rickards on target for the home side.

Darren Parry and Mark Godfrey both hit hat-tricks as Llanystumd­wy won 7-2 away at Llannerchy­medd.
