Car meet to raise funds for son after doting father’s death aged just 25:

AMEMORIAL will be held for a young dad who died suddenly earlier this year. Rhys Fraser Harris Hughes from Deiniolen died on July 12 at just 25, leaving behind his fiveyear-old son, Guto.

The mechanic, who worked at Motobeics Gwion Prys Motorcycles in Garndolbenmaen, has been described as a “doting father” who was “family orientated” and always ready to “have a laugh and a joke”.

Friends of Rhys have organised a car meet in Llandudno Junction at 7.30pm on September 22 to honour his love for motor vehicles and to raise funds for his son. The event will include a “minute of noise and minute of silence”.

Among the hundreds of mourners who attended Rhys’ funeral on July 26, almost 100 made their way to the service on motorbikes.

Rhys’s family said: “We are all still devastated and struggling to know where to begin continuing with our lives.

“Everything is still the same everywhere but our lives have changed forever.

“There are no words to express how sad we all feel that we will never see or speak to Rhys again.

“His funeral was an emotional day, but it was a fitting tribute to his life.”

His family said losing Rhys would leave a “gaping hole” in their lives that no one would be able to fill.

Rhys’s step-sister, MaryAnne, set up a justgiving page to raise money for his son.

The family added: “Guto is doing well. He is still asking questions and obviously misses his dad all the time.

“Money is still being donated to Guto’s Fund but so far more than £4,000 has been raised between the page and various other donations and collections.

“We would like to thank everyone for their kindness at this very sad time, especially to everyone who sent us their condolences, everyone who came to the funeral, and everyone who has donated money for Guto’s trust fund. A special thank you to Meinir Griffiths for organising the funeral, Dragon Custom Motorcycles, and Motobeics Gwion for organising the motorbikes at the funeral, and all of the motorbike riders who accompanied Rhys on his final ride.

“A big thank you to the lovely ladies at the Cricket Pavilion for the catering and the local Post Office workers for getting condolence cards to us even when the proper address wasn’t on the card!

“People have been so kind and generous.”
