Life’s a beach again ... dog ban set to end

- Joel Leaver

THE summer ban on dogs in certain parts of North Wales’ beaches will soon come to an end.

There are restrictions on beaches across the region for our canine companions between May 1 and September 30.

They prevent dog owners from taking their pets to designated areas on beaches, but these will be lifted next week.

These are the areas where you couldn’t take dogs over summer but will soon be able to once again.

When restrictions are lifted on October 1, dog owners will be able to enjoy the following beaches until May 2020: Black Rock Sands, Criccieth Promenade Beach, Criccieth Marine Beach, Pwllheli Glan Don, Pwllheli Marian y De, Abersoch, Aberdaron, Porth Oer, Porth Towyn, Morfa Nefyn, Dinas Dinlle, Nefyn.

Over the summer months, dogs a re banned from a total of seven beaches.

The restrictions, which are shown on signs at the locations, will be lifted from October 1.

The beaches which dog owners will soon be able to enjoy with their pet pooches are: Beaumaris, Benllech, Cemaes Bay, Llanddwyn, Llanddona, Porth Dafarch, Trearddur Bay.

However, dogs must be kept on their leads on the promenades at Benllech, Cemaes Bay and Trearddur Bay. Eight beaches in Conwy have been subject to restrictions for dogs since May.

Failure to comply with this regulation could result in a Fixed Penalty Notice, although this won’t be the case after October 1. Those in the county will soon be able to take their dogs on the following beaches: Rhos on Sea (between Rhos Point and the eastern end of the Cayley Promenade), Colwyn Bay (between the Victoria Pier and the entrance to Eirias Park), Pensarn (between the embedded wooden posts by the cafe and the embedded concrete posts at the western end of the promenade), Kinmel Bay (between Dinas Avenue, Kinmel Bay and Sandbank Road, Towyn), Llandudno North Shore (from Llandudno Pier to Clarence Road), Llandudno West Shore (between the two stone groynes), Penmaenmawr (from the east side of the cafe to the sailing club slipway), Llanfairfechan (between the two slipways extending down from the promenade to the low water mark). Dogs are not permitted at Small Sandy Beach at Rhos Point in Rhos on Sea at any time.
