£5k target for promotion

- Cricket

A LOCAL cricket side are looking to raise funds so they can achieve promotion.

Caernarfon won the Division Four title of the North Wales Cricket League last month, edging out Conwy seconds, but they need a new grass wicket to clinch a place in Division Three to replace their current artificial one.

The ambitious club have set up a Crowdfunding page and are asking people to donate online in order to reach their £5,000 target this month.

Caernarfon also have plans to grow the club with a planning application being developed for a new pavilion and training nets that will help offer opportunities to young people in the area.

One of the stars of the title-winning side Grant Peisley, who has set up the Crowdfunding page, said: “We’ve had amazing support so far with local sponsors and individuals helping us buy kit and balls for each game. Local people come to watch for free and the local papers cover our results.

“S4C, Sgorio, and Radio Cymru have all had features on us because of our success. Now we need some financial support to help us take cricket in Caernarfon to the next level.”

Caernarfon won 13 matches in the league, losing only three and finished four points ahead of nearest challengers Conwy.

The club started in 2015 and won the Gwynedd and Anglesey mid-week T20 league that year.

They were then invited to join the North Wales League the following season and became champions this year.
