BUS FIRM THREE JAILED FOR FRAUD FAIL TO DECLARE FINANCES
THREE men, jailed for their part in a major fraud at a Gwynedd bus company, have appeared in court after failing to submit statements of their financial affairs.
Ian Wyn Jones and his brothers, Keith and Kevin Wyn Jones, were unanimously found guilty by a jury last October of trying to swindle Gwynedd Council by claiming cash for 88,000 journeys which never took place.
The father, three, who with their Eric, ran the Express
Motors company from a depot in Penygroes, near Caernarfon, were also found guilty of siphoning more than £500,000 which they failed to declare.
They were handed jail terms totalling 28 years.
Concluding the sentence hearing at Mold Crown Court, the judge ordered an investigation into their financial affairs be carried out and a timetable was set.
Ian Wyn Jones, 54, of Carmel Road, Penygroes, and Kevin Wyn Jones, 56, of Llwyn Beuno, Bontnewydd, appeared in person at Caernarfon Crown Court.
Keith Wyn Jones, 52, of Cae Berllan, Llanddaniel Fab, Anglesey, appeared by videolink from Berwyn prison in Wrexham.
They were asked only to confirm their names at last Tuesday’s 15-minute hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court.
They listened as prosecutor Matthew Dunford told the court some financial statements had been filed with the prosecution.
He said those relating to the three men were still awaited and he asked the judge to vary the timetable.

Wyn Jones, said an expert report had been commissioned to differentiate between business expenditure and money received personally.
He added the report was expected to be completed by early December.
Judge Timothy Petts agreed to vary the timetable and adjourned the case to a further hearing, at either Caernarfon or Mold Crown Court, in mid-February.
When the reports are complete, the Jones family could be ordered to pay back thousands of pounds of criminal earnings.
