- Football

PORTHMADOG were set to play their Welsh Cup first round game against Llanberis on Tuesday night.

The date has now been confirmed, by Andrew Howard, head of competitions at the FAW, regarding the cup tie.

“The match will be played on Tuesday October 29, at Y Traeth, Porthmadog, under floodlights with a 19.30 kick-off, in accordance with competition rules.”

The game has been postponed twice and the rules state that if this situation arises then it is then played on the opposition ground.

If Port were successful against Llanberis then they will face Gresford Athletic at home in the second round to be played on the weekend of Friday to Saturday, November 8-9.

The club recently announced that Morgan Jones has joined Pwllheli until the end of the season to get some much-needed minutes and further experience.

In a club statement, it said: “Although playing for Pwllheli, he will continue to train with us every week as we feel that’s important for his development.

“He’s a talented young goalkeeper with a fantastic future ahead of him but we feel this is the right move for him in the short-term.”

Before the scheduled Welsh Cup tie with Llanberis, Port hadn’t been in action for a couple of week since the goalless draw with Penrhyncoch.

Assistant manger Craig Papirnyk gave his verdict on what was a valuable point gained as Port’s recent good form continued.

“On reflection and given the situation we find ourselves in, that was a good point against a well organised, hard working and honest Penrhyncoch team who have started the season really well.

Port have also recently announced that they had a new physio as Gwern Dafydd joins the club.

He joins as part of an exciting new partnership which has been formed between the club and Caernarfon-based Eryri Physiotherapy.

Port’s next Cymru North fixture is a home game against Corwen on Saturday, November 2.
