Two ‘mindless’ attacks in a week cause thousands of pounds of damage at new attraction:

A RECENTLY-built multimilli­on-pound train station has been targeted by vandals twice in a week, with damage worth thousands of pounds.

Staff at the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways said they are “disappoint­ed” the attraction in Caernarfon has been attacked.

On November 22 and November 29, staff at the station discovered damage to the glass panels on the outside of the building.

Staff said repairing them will cost more than £5,000.

Highland Railways general manager Paul Lewin said: “The Welsh Highland Railway is a huge anchor attraction for North Wales.

“We have enjoyed wonderful co-operation from the local people and have forged great relationsh­ips in the town.

“Therefore, it’s regrettabl­e a mindless few seem intent upon spoiling this.

“Rest assured that, with the co-operation of North Wales Police, we will vigorously hunt down those responsibl­e and pursue damages.

“The area is covered by high-definition CCTV.”

The station is part of Caernarfon’s £16million waterfront developmen­t

North Wales Police confirmed they had received reports of vandalism to the building.

A spokespers­on said: “We received a call from Welsh Highland Railway at 3.10pm on November 22 reporting the damage to the glass panelling at the station.

“We received a second report at 10.08am on November 29 reporting damage that had occurred overnight to the glass panelling at the building.”
