Artist’s dragonfly tale takes wing

New exhibition a departure for landscape specialist

-

THE multi award-winning Gallery Ffin y Parc, is pleased to invite you to a major art exhibition featuring 30 new works by highly collectable landscape painter Dewi Tudur. Followers of Dewi’s work will be pleasantly surprised to experience something a little different from the Tuscan-based Welsh artist.

Along with the snow-covered landscapes of Italy, most of Dewi’s new show, Dewey and the Dragonfly, tells the endearing story of a growing friendship between a boy and a dragonfly, set among the cypress trees of Tuscany in the 1960s.

Dewi Tudur was born in Mold in 1957 and lived in Llanrwst for many years working as an art teacher and artist. He is now based in Italy with his family.

Of his work Dewi explained: “I had the story Dewey and the Dragonfly in my mind last year about the empathy between a little boy and a dragonfly. I’ve now written the story and completed all the illustrations for this show at Ffin y Parc.

“The biggest piece in the exhibition is three metres long and I feel it really shows the relationship of the little boy, Dewey and the dragonfly. After exhibiting for nearly 40 years, in what can sometimes be a lonely profession, I wanted to show that I’ve still got the sensitivity of touch and show what else I can do.”

Dewi’s solo show will run alongside a Christmas Mixed exhibition, which includes work from over 40 gallery artists including Matthew Wood, William Selwyn, Sarah Carvell and the highly collectable landscape painter David Grosvenor, to name a few, with all works under £1,000 and sold off the wall.

Gallery owner Ralph Sanders added: “The Mixed Christmas Show is my favourite time of the year as it’s ever changing with all works being sold off the wall. We have beautifully created new works by 40 of our gallery artists, all for under £1,000, this runs alongside a new show from Dewi Tudur. I believe people will be genuinely surprised to see this other side of Dewi, portraits are not a direction he has approached for decades. This body of work is simplistic and pure, powerful and enchanting.”

An exhibition of new works by Dewi Tudur – ‘Dewey and the Dragonfly’ and a Mixed Christmas Exhibition runs from Sunday, December 8 until Sunday, December 22 at Ffin y Parc Gallery, Betws Road, Llanrwst. LL26 0PT 01492 642070 www.welshart.
