A GREAT evening of basketball was enjoyed by the Caernarfon Celts Under 16s as Celts Du played Celts Gwyrdd in their first league encounter at Canolfan Hamdden Arfon last Wednesday.

Despite a spirited start from the Celts Gwyrdd, Celts Du took command from the onset, the first quarter ending Celts Du 21 -11 Celts Gwyrdd. A repeat of their offensive onslaught from Celts Du in the second quarter put them in a commanding lead by the half, Celts Du 39-19 Celts Gwyrdd. Led by guard Jac Roscoe, Celts Gwyrdd

fought back gamely in the second half scoring 23 points to the Celts Du’s 27 but were unable to claw back the deficit, final score Celts Du 66-42 Celts Gwyrdd.

MVP for Celts Du Deio Llywelyn (18 points), top scorer Connor Roberts with 24. MVP for Celts Gwyrdd was Ryan Figgins and top scorer Jac Roscoe with 12.

On Friday Celts U14s travelled to Holywell for their second league game against Bromborough Bulldogs. An excellent performance from rookie guard Ocean Scott ensured the first quarter remained tight, ending 10-6 to Bulldogs. Despite another

evenly-contested second quarter the Bulldogs edged into a telling 16-8 lead by the half. The Bulldogs extended their lead early in the third quarter as crucial errors by the Celts were pounced upon. With Celts throwing caution to the wind to get back they were unable to stop the Bulldogs taking full advantage of turnovers and steals, final score Bulldogs 40 -16 Celts.

MVP and top scorer for the Celts with 16 points was Ocean Scott.

Celts Du U16s were due back in action last night at Holywell to play Wrexham Warriors: the U14s host Ynys Môn Celts at Canolfan Hamdden Arfon this Friday.
