Blaenau prove too strong for Sports

MEILIR Williams and Iwan Jones scored the goals for Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs in a 2-0 win over Prestatyn Sports in the Welsh Alliance Division One.

The visitors had their backs to the wall early on when prolific striker Williams extended his fine run of goalscorin­g form with a superb strike to break the deadlock.

Sports were unable to convert any of the chances that came their way after going behind, and they were made to pay for their lack of conviction in front of goal when Jones took advantage of some space to double the Quarrymen’s advantage.

Nantlle Vale defeated Llandyrnog United by the same score, Gethin Thomas and Gavin Edwards finding the net.

Penrhyndeu­draeth and Llanrug United drew 3-3 in a thriller.

Cai Henshaw, Steven Jones and Tomos Smith netted for the hosts to put them three-up entering the latter stages, but Dylan Owen, Gavin Lloyd-Jones and Iwan Edwards rescued a dramatic point for the visitors.

In Division Two, captain Dan Jones’ double saw Barmouth and Dyffryn lose 2-1 at home to Amlwch Town.

Y Felinheli pipped Llandudno Junction 4-3, Gruff John, Iwan Owen (2) and Owain Roberts for the hosts, Jack Nettleton (2) and Jack Williams on the mark for the Railwaymen.

Dafydd Gwyn Jones (2) and Jamie Banks made sure Pwllheli saw off Mochdre Sports 3-0.

In the Reserves Division, Meical Owen and Robin Whiteside Thomas struck for Llanrug United in a 2-1 derby victory over Llanberis.

Elsewhere Nantlle Vale drew 2-2 at St Asaph.

In the Gwynedd League, Bontnewydd edged a 2-1 win over visitors Ogwen Tigers, Morgan Roberts and Aled Steele scoring for the hosts with Kieron Bullock responding.

Talysarn Celts saw off Llannerchy­medd 5-1, Peter Bridges, Gavin Davies (pen), Glyn Tomos (2) and Rhodri Jones providing the home tally, Ashley Rowlands on target for the bottom side.

Dylan Sion Jones struck twice to see Nefyn United past Trearddur Bay Bulls 2-1, Craig Moore ensuring the Anglesey visitors went close.
