Assistant boss reflects on season so far

-

CAERNARFON Town begin the second phase of the Cymru Premier season this Friday with a home clash against Bala Town.

Last week saw Huw Griffiths announced as the new Canaries boss but PAUL EVANS has been talking to the man who led the Cofis in the first phase, Sean Eardley, to review the season thus far.

There have been some obvious highlights such as the win over champions and league leaders The New Saints and one or two lows such as the recent home defeat by Aberystwyth Town.

Caernarfon are also through to the last eight of the Welsh Cup.

“We go into the second phase having matched our target from the start of the season,” said Eardley.

“We wanted to get into the top six and we’ve achieved it.

“It’s been one massive effort from the players and management and it’s something they rightfully deserve.

“There have been some highs, the win against TNS coupled with performances against Barry and Connah’s Quay at home, and lows, with the festive period and Aber at home coming to mind.

“But we’ve stuck together and reached our goal.

“We had long term injuries in Mike Pearson, Jamie Crowther and Noah Edwards and despite them still being around the place they are fantastic players on the field. “We didn’t let that deter us though. “Players such as Gruff John and Sam Jones have fitted in effortlessly and adjusted to life in the top flight really well!

“We’re going well in the Welsh Cup, with tricky away fixtures against Goytre Utd and Ammanford looked after professionally.

“Last Friday in particular was a fantastic occasion to be a part of.

“We can’t wait for the next eleven matches now, including the Welsh Cup, which will have that element of spice now.

“To be working alongside Huw is a boost that myself and the management team needed!

“He will add experience and knowledge to what is already a strong management team.

“So, a week before the second phase begins, I ask the best supporters in the league to get behind the lads and go again, let’s give it a right go!

“You’ve been superb as per (usual)!” The home fixture against Bala takes place on Friday, February 7 and kick-off is at 8pm.
