CELTS U18S CLINCH LEAGUE TITLE

CAERNARFON Celts U18s were back in action at Holywell High School last Tuesday when they faced Wrexham Warriors for the third and final league encounter between the two teams this season.

With victory ensuring them the u18s North Wales League title and a berth in the All Wales Finals in May, the Celts were in determined mood and took a 30-0 lead in the first quarter in a clinical display of attacking basketball. Keeping the Warriors on the back foot for the second quarter, Celts maintained their drive opening a 55-4 lead, the whole squad contributi­ng to an excellent first half.

Despite a spirited and commendabl­e effort from the Warriors throughout the game they were unable to compete with the Celts’ size and speed, the Caernarfon outfit securing the win and also the North Wales Basketball League title with two games left to play; final score Caernarfon Celts 120–13 Wrexham Warriors.

MVP for the Celts was Guto Whiteside Thomas and top scorer with 25 points was Sean Jones.

With the support of Basketball Wales and Sports Wales, Caernarfon Celts held a well-attended and successful free Mini Basketball camp on Sunday at Arfon Tennis Centre and Caernarfon Leisure Centre. Caernarfon Head Coach

Arwel Jones said: “Due to financial support from Basketball Wales and Sports Wales, the Celts were able to offer four hours of free basketball to anyone interested in the sport and over 30 young players turned up to enjoy a fun and active Sunday.”

The Celts run weekly mini basketball sessions on Monday at 6pm at Arfon Tennis Centre, Caernarfon and anyone wishing to join in is welcome to contact the club through its Facebook page to book a place.

Caernarfon Celts Gwyrdd were due to play Hive Heat last night and Celts U14s to play Bromboroug­h Bulldogs in their second encounter this season.
