MURDER VICTIM FFION’S FAMILY ‘THINK ABOUT HER EVERY DAY’ 10 YEARS ON:

FAMILY OF MURDER VICTIM ‘OVERWHELMED’ BY LOVE AND SUPPORT TEN YEARS ON FROM KILLING

- Kelly Williams

THE family of tragic Ffion Wyn Roberts have said they are “overwhelmed” by the love and support they have been shown as they released balloons to mark ten years passing since her murder.

Bethan and Idris Roberts said they were touched that members of the Gwynedd community had not forgotten their much-loved daughter who was described as a “livewire in the community, full of joy and laughter, kindness and love towards everybody including her family”.

The 22-year-old care worker was beaten, strangled with her own scarf and left to drown in a ditch yards from her Porthmadog home as she returned from a night out in the early hours of April 10, 2010.

This weekend, her parents reflected on the last decade and opened up about their pain, admitting they carry Ffion’s picture with them everywhere they go.

Ffion’s friends joined the family in paying their respects – some went to the memorial spot close to where her body was found to remember her and others raised a glass to her at home.

Her brother Elgan, who now lives in Wrexham with his family, released balloons in his own garden at the same time.

Idris said: “We decided to release a few balloons with it being 10 years since Ffion was murdered.

“I don’t know where the time has gone to be honest but we wanted to mark the day. While we were there at the memorial spot, some other friends turned up too, we weren’t expecting that at all.

“Obviously everyone stood at a distance from each other.

“Even though we kept apart, we were together in remembering Ffion.

“We were really touched and overwhelmed that her friends still think about her.”

Bethan said: “I burst into tears when I saw some of Ffion’s closest friends had come out and joined us, I managed a few words and we played her favourite song, Footsteps in the Sand and everyone clapped when we released the balloons.

“We think about Ffion every single day.

“The support we’ve been shown means so much to us.”
